Whiskey Bacon Jam is a rich and savory spread combining crispy bacon, sweet apples, warm spices, and a splash of whiskey to create a deliciously complex flavor perfect for toast, burgers, or cheese boards.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 6 slices bacon
  • 1 medium apple, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1/2 cup whiskey (such as bourbon or rye)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook the bacon: Cook the bacon in a large skillet over medium heat until crispy. Once done, remove from the skillet and place on a paper towel to cool and drain excess fat. Crumble the cooled bacon into small pieces.
  2. Sauté the onion: Drain excess bacon grease from the skillet, leaving about 1 tablespoon behind. Add the finely chopped onion to the skillet and cook over medium heat until softened, approximately 5 minutes.
  3. Add the apples: Stir in the diced apple and cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples begin to soften but retain some texture.
  4. Deglaze with whiskey: Pour in the whiskey, stirring to incorporate and deglaze the pan. Cook for 2-3 minutes to allow the alcohol to reduce slightly and the flavors to meld.
  5. Add remaining ingredients and simmer: Add brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, ground cinnamon, and ground cloves to the skillet. Stir well and bring the mixture to a simmer. Cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring frequently, until the mixture thickens to a jam-like consistency.
  6. Combine with bacon: Stir in the crumbled bacon and cook for an additional 2 minutes to integrate flavors and warm the bacon throughout.
  7. Season and cool: Taste and season with salt and pepper as needed. Allow the jam to cool before transferring to a jar or serving.

Notes

  • Use a good quality whiskey such as bourbon or rye for the best flavor.
  • The jam can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
  • Perfect as a topping for burgers, sandwiches, crackers, or cheese boards.
  • Make sure to cook the whiskey long enough to reduce the alcohol content.
  • For a smoother texture, you can pulse the jam lightly in a food processor once cooled.
