Ingredients

Scale

Seafood Mixture

  • 1 cup fresh or frozen shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup crab meat (fresh or canned)
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill, chopped
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Bread Bowl

  • 1 crusty sourdough or Italian bread loaf

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the seafood bread bowl.
  2. Prepare the bread bowl: Cut off the top of the bread loaf and carefully hollow out the inside, leaving enough bread around the edges and bottom to hold the filling securely.
  3. Make the seafood filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shrimp, crab meat, garlic powder, lemon juice, chopped parsley, and chopped dill. Mix thoroughly until well incorporated.
  4. Add cheese to mixture: Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese into the seafood mixture to add richness and flavor.
  5. Fill the bread loaf: Spoon the seafood mixture into the hollowed-out bread loaf, filling it generously until it’s slightly overflowing.
  6. Bake: Place the filled bread loaf on a baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbly and heated through.
  7. Cool and serve: Allow the stuffed seafood bread bowl to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy it with crispy veggies or crackers on the side for a delightful meal or appetizer.

Notes

  • You can substitute crab meat with imitation crab if fresh crab is unavailable.
  • For extra flavor, consider adding a pinch of cayenne pepper or Old Bay seasoning to the seafood filling.
  • To keep the bread bowl crisp, avoid soaking it with too much of the mixture and remove excess moisture from seafood before mixing.
  • This dish pairs well with a fresh green salad or vegetable crudités.
  • Leftover filling can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and used as a dip or spread.
