Oreo Base
- 1 package Red velvet Oreos (22 cookies)
- 4 oz cream cheese
Coating and Decoration
- 7 oz green candy melts
- Red heart sprinkles
- ½ teaspoon coconut oil or any unflavored oil (optional, to thin candy melts)
- Prepare Baking Sheet: Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside for the coated Oreo balls to rest on.
- Make Oreo Dough: In a food processor, pulse the red velvet Oreo cookies until they become fine crumbs. Add the cream cheese and blend again until the mixture forms a soft, dough-like consistency.
- Form Balls and Chill: Using a 1 tablespoon measuring spoon, scoop out the Oreo mixture, then roll each portion into a ball between your palms. Place each ball on the prepared baking sheet. Once all are shaped, chill the balls in the freezer for 30 minutes to firm up.
- Melt Candy Coating: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the green candy melts in 30-second intervals, stirring between each until smooth. If the mixture is too thick for dipping, stir in ½ teaspoon of coconut or unflavored oil to thin it.
- Dip Oreo Balls: Using a chocolate dipping fork, dip each Oreo ball into the melted candy melts, coating it evenly. Place the coated balls back onto the parchment-lined baking sheet. Repeat with all balls.
- Decorate: Transfer any leftover melted candy melts to a piping bag and drizzle over the coated Oreo balls. Immediately top each with a red heart sprinkle to mimic the iconic Grinch heart.
- Set and Serve: Refrigerate the finished truffles for a few minutes to allow the candy coating to set completely. Serve chilled and enjoy your festive Grinch Oreo Balls!
Notes
- Using red velvet Oreos adds holiday color and a festive flavor twist compared to classic Oreo flavors.
- If candy melts are too thick, adding coconut or unflavored oil will help achieve a smoother dip.
- Ensure the Oreo balls are well chilled before dipping to prevent melting and help the coating set properly.
- Store leftover Oreo balls in the refrigerator for up to one week in an airtight container.
- For an extra festive look, consider using green sprinkles or edible glitter alongside the red hearts.
