Ingredients

Scale

Shrimp and Marinade

  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • ¼ cup honey
  • ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tsp cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
  • 1 tbsp water (if using cornstarch)

Cooking and Garnish

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cups cooked white or brown rice
  • 2 tbsp green onions, sliced (for garnish)
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cook the Rice: Prepare the rice following the package instructions. Once cooked, set aside and keep warm until serving.
  2. Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, low-sodium soy sauce, minced garlic, and grated ginger. If you prefer a thicker sauce, mix the cornstarch with water and incorporate it into the sauce blend.
  3. Cook the Shrimp: Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp in a single layer and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until they turn pink and develop a light golden sear.
  4. Add the Sauce: Pour the prepared honey garlic sauce over the cooked shrimp. Continue cooking for another 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and evenly coats the shrimp.
  5. Serve: Spoon the shrimp together with the rich sauce over bowls of warm rice. Garnish with sliced green onions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds for added flavor and texture. Serve immediately while hot.

Notes

  • Ensure shrimp are fully peeled and deveined for the best texture.
  • If you prefer less sweetness, reduce the honey to 2 tablespoons.
  • Use low-sodium soy sauce to keep the sodium content moderate.
  • For gluten-free option, substitute soy sauce with tamari.
  • The cornstarch slurry is optional but helps create a thicker, more clingy sauce.
  • Can be served with steamed vegetables or a side salad for a complete meal.
