Ingredients

Scale

Flatbread Base

  • 2 Flatbreads
  • 2 teaspoons Olive Oil
  • 1 tablespoon Minced Garlic (divided)
  • ⅓ cup Shredded Mozzarella

Toppings

  • 3 ounces Prosciutto
  • 1 Small Yellow Onion
  • 2 ounces Arugula

Spicy Honey Drizzle

  • 1 tablespoon Honey
  • ½ tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar
  • ¼ teaspoon Crushed Red Pepper Flakes

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400℉ (204℃) to prepare for baking the flatbreads.
  2. Prep Flatbreads: Drizzle each flatbread with olive oil. Evenly spread the minced garlic over the two flatbreads. Place the flatbreads directly on the oven rack and bake for 5 minutes to slightly crisp and infuse the garlic flavor. Remove and set aside.
  3. Cook Prosciutto: Slice the prosciutto into thin strips. Heat a pan over medium-high heat and cook the prosciutto for 1-2 minutes until crispy. Once done, transfer to a towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  4. Caramelize Onions: In the same pan, add 1 teaspoon olive oil and medium-high heat the thinly sliced yellow onion. Cook for 7-8 minutes until the onions are golden brown and caramelized. Remove from heat.
  5. Assemble Flatbreads: Spread the caramelized onions evenly over each flatbread. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on top.
  6. Bake with Cheese: Place the assembled flatbreads back on the oven rack and bake for 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Make Spicy Honey Drizzle: While the flatbreads bake, combine honey, apple cider vinegar, and crushed red pepper flakes in a bowl. Add the crispy prosciutto strips to this mixture and stir to coat evenly.
  8. Finish and Serve: Remove the flatbreads from the oven, drizzle generously with the spicy honey and prosciutto mixture, and top with fresh arugula. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, you can toast the flatbreads a bit longer before adding toppings.
  • If you prefer less spice, reduce the crushed red pepper flakes or omit them entirely.
  • To make it vegetarian, simply omit the prosciutto and adjust the drizzle ingredients accordingly.
  • Fresh mozzarella can be used instead of shredded for different texture.
  • This recipe is perfect for a quick meal or appetizer and pairs well with a crisp white wine or sparkling water.
