Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar (or brown sugar for a softer scrub)
  • ½ cup (about 120g) Melt-and-Pour Soap Base
  • ¼ cup (about 60g) Coconut Oil or Shea Butter
  • 1015 drops Essential Oils (your favorite fragrance)

Optional Add-ins

  • ½ teaspoon Natural Colorants (mica powder, beetroot powder, or turmeric)
  • 12 tablespoons Dried Flowers (lavender, rose petals, chamomile)
  • 510 drops Vitamin E Oil
  • 12 tablespoons Ground Oats or Coffee Grounds
  • 1 tablespoon Honey

Tools

  • Microwave-safe bowl or double boiler
  • Silicone molds (ice cube trays, cupcake molds, specialty shapes)
  • Mixing spoon
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Instructions

  1. Melt the Soap Base: Cut the melt-and-pour soap base into small chunks and melt in a microwave-safe bowl at 20-second intervals, stirring between until fully liquefied. Alternatively, use a double boiler for gentle melting.
  2. Add Coconut Oil or Shea Butter: Stir the coconut oil or shea butter into the melted soap base until fully combined, ensuring a smooth mixture.
  3. Incorporate Essential Oils: Add 10–15 drops of your chosen essential oils and stir well to evenly distribute the fragrance.
  4. Add the Sugar: Gradually fold in 1 cup of sugar; the mixture will thicken and develop a gritty, sand-like texture. For a firmer scrub bar, up to 1½ cups of sugar can be added.
  5. Customize with Add-ins: Mix in any optional ingredients like natural colorants (½ teaspoon), dried flowers (1–2 tablespoons), vitamin E oil (5–10 drops), ground oats or coffee grounds (1–2 tablespoons), and honey (1 tablespoon) to enhance exfoliation, moisture, and appearance.
  6. Pour into Molds: Quickly pour the mixture into silicone molds and use a spoon to press down and smooth the surface before the mixture starts to harden.
  7. Let Them Set: Allow the bars to cool and harden completely at room temperature for 1–2 hours or refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  8. Unmold and Store: Carefully remove the scrub bars from the molds and store them in an airtight container in a cool, dry place to preserve freshness.

Notes

  • If the mixture hardens too quickly, gently remelt using the microwave or double boiler.
  • Store scrub bars away from heat and moisture to prevent melting or softening.
  • Use wax paper or decorative jars when gifting for a polished presentation.
  • For sensitive skin, opt for fine sugar, soothing additives (oats, chamomile), and avoid harsh essential oils or colorants.
  • Adjust sugar and oil quantities to modify bar firmness according to preference.
  • Do not use on face; these bars are intended for body exfoliation only due to their abrasive nature.
  • Most recipes are vegan if using plant-based oils and vegan-certified soap bases.
