Dip Ingredients
- 1 cup crab meat (imitation or canned lump crab meat, drained very well)
- 8 ounces cream cheese (at room temperature, 1 brick, 250 grams)
- ¼ cup mayonnaise
- ¼ cup sour cream
- 2 cloves garlic (finely minced)
- 4 green onions (thinly sliced, white and green parts)
- 2 teaspoons soy sauce
- ½ teaspoon sugar
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese
Topping
- ½ cup mozzarella cheese (shredded)
- ½ cup Thai Sweet Chili Sauce (optional)
Wonton Chips
- 24 wonton wraps (cut in half diagonally to create triangles)
- Vegetable oil (for frying or brushing for air frying)
Garnish
- 1 green onion (thinly sliced, white and green parts)
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the dip.
- Prepare Cream Cheese: If the cream cheese is not at room temperature, microwave it for about 10 seconds to soften, making it easier to blend with other ingredients.
- Mix Dip Ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine the crab meat, softened cream cheese, mayonnaise, sour cream, minced garlic, sliced green onions, soy sauce, sugar, and 1 cup mozzarella cheese. Stir until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
- Transfer to Baking Dish: Pour the mixture into a 1-quart oven-safe baking dish or an 8”x8” (or 9”x9”) square or 8”-9” round dish, spreading it evenly.
- Add Topping Cheese: Sprinkle the reserved ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the top of the dip.
- Bake the Dip: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the dip is bubbly and the mozzarella is golden brown and slightly browned.
- Prepare Wonton Chips (while dip bakes): Cut the wonton wrappers diagonally in half to make triangular chips.
- Cooking Wonton Chips – Pan Fry Method: In a frying pan or skillet, heat enough vegetable oil to coat the bottom over medium-high heat. Fry wonton chips in batches for 20-25 seconds each side until golden, bubbly, and crispy. Remove chips and drain on paper towels.
- Cooking Wonton Chips – Air Fryer Method: Preheat air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Lightly spray or brush wonton chips with oil. Arrange in a single layer (do not stack) and air fry for 4-5 minutes until golden brown, bubbly, and crispy. Remove and cool.
- Add Optional Sweet Chili Sauce: Once the dip is done baking, optionally drizzle or spread ½ cup Thai Sweet Chili Sauce evenly over the top for a sweet and mildly spicy flavor.
- Serve: Garnish the dip with thinly sliced green onion. Serve hot with the prepared wonton chips or your choice of dippers like tortilla chips, crackers, or vegetable sticks. Enjoy!
Notes
- Wonton wraps can usually be found in the refrigerated section near tofu and salad dressings. If unavailable, egg roll or spring roll wrappers can be substituted.
- The Thai Sweet Chili Sauce is optional and adds a sweet rather than spicy kick, so feel free to omit it if preferred.
- Wonton chips can also be replaced with tortilla chips, crackers, pita bread, or fresh vegetable sticks, depending on your preference.
- Ensure cream cheese is softened for easier mixing and smoother dip texture.
