4.5 from 90 reviews

A simple and festive Christmas Crack recipe combining buttery toffee, gluten-free crackers, rich chocolate, and optional crushed candy canes for a crunchy, sweet holiday treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Base Layer

  • About 20 Gluten Free Table Crackers (Schar brand recommended)

Toffee Topping

  • 1/2 cup melted butter (plant-based)
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar

Chocolate Topping

  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Optional Toppings

  • Crushed candy canes

Instructions

  1. Prepare the base: Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and arrange a single layer of gluten-free table crackers evenly on the sheet to form a solid base.
  2. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) to get it ready while you prepare the toffee mixture.
  3. Make the toffee: In a small saucepan, combine the melted butter and brown sugar. Heat over medium heat until the mixture reaches a slight boil, then reduce to low and simmer for about 5 minutes to develop a rich toffee flavor.
  4. Pour toffee over crackers: Immediately spread the hot toffee evenly over the layered crackers on the baking sheet to coat them completely.
  5. Bake the cracker-toffee base: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 5 minutes, allowing the toffee to set into the crackers.
  6. Add the chocolate topping: Remove the baking sheet from the oven and quickly sprinkle semi-sweet chocolate chips evenly over the hot toffee layer. Let the chocolate soften for a minute or two, then spread it into an even layer with a spatula.
  7. Finish with optional toppings: Sprinkle crushed candy canes or your preferred toppings on top of the melted chocolate for added festive crunch and flavor.
  8. Cool and set: Allow the entire sheet to cool completely at room temperature or refrigerate briefly until the chocolate hardens and the Christmas Crack can be broken into pieces for serving.
