Ingredients

Scale

Spice Mix

  • ¼ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground cardamom
  • ¼ tsp ground cloves
  • ¼ tsp ground ginger
  • ¼ tsp ground star anise
  • 1 tbsp Earl Grey tea, powdered

Main Ingredients

  • 6 cups Rice Krispie cereal
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 10 oz marshmallows

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pan: Line a 9×9 inch baking dish with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ease removal of the treats later.
  2. Make the Chai Spice Mix: Combine the ground cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, star anise, and powdered Earl Grey tea in a spice grinder or food processor. Pulse until the spices are finely powdered. Set this chai spice mix aside.
  3. Prepare Cereal: Place the Rice Krispie cereal in a large mixing bowl; set aside to combine later.
  4. Melt Butter and Marshmallows: Over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter. Add the chai spice mixture and the marshmallows to the melted butter. Stir continuously until the marshmallows are completely melted and the spices are evenly incorporated into the mixture.
  5. Combine Mixture with Cereal: Pour the spiced marshmallow mixture over the Rice Krispie cereal in the bowl. Stir thoroughly to ensure that all the cereal pieces are well coated with the marshmallow and spice blend.
  6. Transfer to Pan and Press: Spoon the coated cereal mixture into the prepared baking dish. Using a spatula, press down firmly to distribute the treats evenly and create a compact layer.
  7. Cool and Serve: Allow the Rice Krispie treats to cool at room temperature for about 10 minutes before slicing and serving to ensure they set properly.

Notes

  • For an extra indulgent twist, drizzle melted chocolate infused with chai tea powder over the top before the treats set.
  • Use parchment paper to easily lift treats out of the pan for cutting.
  • If you do not have a spice grinder, a mortar and pestle or finely ground pre-mixed chai spice can be used.
  • Ensure marshmallows are fully melted for even coating and texture.
  • Store treats in an airtight container to maintain freshness for up to 3 days.
