Ingredients

  • 1 cup crab meat (imitation or canned lump, well drained)
  • 8 ounces cream cheese (room temperature)
  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup sour cream
  • 2 cloves garlic (finely minced)
  • 4 green onions (thinly sliced, white and green parts)
  • 2 teaspoons soy sauce
  • ½ teaspoon sugar
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup mozzarella cheese (shredded, for topping)
  • ½ cup Thai Sweet Chili Sauce (optional)
  • 24 wonton wraps (cut in half for chips)
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1 green onion (thinly sliced, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). If the cream cheese is not soft, warm it in the microwave for about 10 seconds until easily spreadable.
  2. Step 2: In a medium bowl, mix together crab meat, cream cheese, mayonnaise, sour cream, minced garlic, green onions, soy sauce, sugar, and 1 cup mozzarella until evenly combined.
  3. Step 3: Transfer the mixture to an oven-safe baking dish (around 1 quart or 8”x8” size). Sprinkle the reserved ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese evenly on top.
  4. Step 4: Bake for 20–25 minutes until the dip is bubbly and the cheese on top is slightly browned.
  5. Step 5: While baking, prepare the wonton chips (see instructions below). Once baked, optionally spoon the Thai sweet chili sauce over the dip and spread it evenly.
  6. Step 6: Garnish the dip with the sliced green onion and serve warm with the wonton chips or your choice of dippers.
  7. Wonton Chips – Pan-Fried Method: Heat a thin layer of vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Fry wonton triangles in batches for 20–25 seconds or until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
  8. Wonton Chips – Air Fryer Method: Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Lightly oil or spray the wonton chips and arrange them in a single layer inside the fryer. Cook for 4–5 minutes until golden and crispy.

Tips & Variations

  • Drain the crab meat well to avoid a watery dip.
  • For a spicier kick, add a dash of sriracha or swap sweet chili sauce for a hot chili sauce.
  • If you can’t find wonton wrappers, use egg roll or spring roll wrappers as a substitute.
  • Try serving the dip with pita chips, crackers, or fresh veggie sticks instead of wonton chips.
  • Room temperature cream cheese blends more easily for a smooth dip texture.

Storage

Store any leftover dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently in the oven at 300°F until warmed through or microwave in short bursts, stirring occasionally. Keep wonton chips separate and crispy; they do not store well once fried or air fried.

  • 8 ounces cream cheese (at room temperature, 1 brick, 250 grams)
  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup sour cream
  • 2 cloves garlic (finely minced)
  • 4 green onions (thinly sliced, white and green parts)
  • 2 teaspoons soy sauce
  • ½ teaspoon sugar
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese

Topping

  • ½ cup mozzarella cheese (shredded)
  • ½ cup Thai Sweet Chili Sauce (optional)

Wonton Chips

  • 24 wonton wraps (cut in half diagonally to create triangles)
  • Vegetable oil (for frying or brushing for air frying)

Garnish

  • 1 green onion (thinly sliced, white and green parts)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the dip.
  2. Prepare Cream Cheese: If the cream cheese is not at room temperature, microwave it for about 10 seconds to soften, making it easier to blend with other ingredients.
  3. Mix Dip Ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine the crab meat, softened cream cheese, mayonnaise, sour cream, minced garlic, sliced green onions, soy sauce, sugar, and 1 cup mozzarella cheese. Stir until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  4. Transfer to Baking Dish: Pour the mixture into a 1-quart oven-safe baking dish or an 8”x8” (or 9”x9”) square or 8”-9” round dish, spreading it evenly.
  5. Add Topping Cheese: Sprinkle the reserved ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the top of the dip.
  6. Bake the Dip: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the dip is bubbly and the mozzarella is golden brown and slightly browned.
  7. Prepare Wonton Chips (while dip bakes): Cut the wonton wrappers diagonally in half to make triangular chips.
  8. Cooking Wonton Chips – Pan Fry Method: In a frying pan or skillet, heat enough vegetable oil to coat the bottom over medium-high heat. Fry wonton chips in batches for 20-25 seconds each side until golden, bubbly, and crispy. Remove chips and drain on paper towels.
  9. Cooking Wonton Chips – Air Fryer Method: Preheat air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Lightly spray or brush wonton chips with oil. Arrange in a single layer (do not stack) and air fry for 4-5 minutes until golden brown, bubbly, and crispy. Remove and cool.
  10. Add Optional Sweet Chili Sauce: Once the dip is done baking, optionally drizzle or spread ½ cup Thai Sweet Chili Sauce evenly over the top for a sweet and mildly spicy flavor.
  11. Serve: Garnish the dip with thinly sliced green onion. Serve hot with the prepared wonton chips or your choice of dippers like tortilla chips, crackers, or vegetable sticks. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Wonton wraps can usually be found in the refrigerated section near tofu and salad dressings. If unavailable, egg roll or spring roll wrappers can be substituted.
  • The Thai Sweet Chili Sauce is optional and adds a sweet rather than spicy kick, so feel free to omit it if preferred.
  • Wonton chips can also be replaced with tortilla chips, crackers, pita bread, or fresh vegetable sticks, depending on your preference.
  • Ensure cream cheese is softened for easier mixing and smoother dip texture.
